Morgenster Estate Extra Virgin Olive Oil 2020

Morgenster Estate Extra Virgin Olive Oil 2020

Estate grown, pressed and bottled in Stellenbosch, the acclaimed wine and olive growing region outside of Capetown, South Africa, this is southern hemisphere perfection. Each of the 17 Italian olive varietals are handpicked, pressed and stored separately in stainless steel tanks. The oil is allowed to settle longer than other oils, enabling the sediment to separate naturally before it’s siphoned off (without the need for a filtration system). Less sediment improves the quality of the oil and extends the shelf life. The terroir of Stellenbosch is perfect for producing high quality olive oil. The rain runs off of the rocky soil quickly, meaning no excess water ends up in the fruit (less water, of course, leading to higher anti-oxidants). The coastal location offers consistent, cool sea breezes that slow the ripening process, giving the olives more time to develop. This oil offers a yearly consistent flavor profile, intensely fruity with tastes of artichokes, green apples and almonds followed by a long, peppery finish. Regularly $27.50 the bottle, on sale now at:

Azeite do Alentejo Interior DOP Olive Oil Jose Gourmet

Azeite do Alentejo Interior DOP Olive Oil Jose Gourmet

The production of olive oil in the Alentejo region is lost in the memory of time — Romans, Visigoths and Arabs produced olive oil here — it is thought that, even before the presence of these peoples in the region, olive oil was already produced here. Portel, where this olive oil comes from, is one of the municipalities that produce the olive oil from Alentejo Interior DOP. Its typically yellowish color, oscillating between golden or greener hues, is associated with the flavors and aromas of the cultivars Galega Vulgar, Cordovil de Serpa and Cobrançosa.

Pasta Pici di Toscana Organic Pastificio Morelli

When cooked it has a radius almost that of a standard pencil (cooking time, at almost 20 minutes, is longer than, say, spaghetti but, it is well worth the wait). Serve it with most any sauce or try something more traditional like pici alle briciole (pici with breadcrumbs) or pici all'aglione (pici with tomatoes and garlic). Produce of organic durum semolina wheat. Recipes and more information on Visit Tuscany.
