The vintage of 2016 is certainly a very fine vintage in Bordeaux. Our tastings of barrel samples of the wines at the en primeur tastings in the spring of 2017 in Bordeaux indicated deeply colored, amply-bodied to sturdy, richly-textured wines capable of aging mid to long-term. The finished wines in bottle have since been praised further and more highly still (note Antonio Galloni's comments just below). The bottled 2016s capture every bit of the potential I sensed when I started tasting the wines from barrel, prior to en primeur, in January 2017. I found many 2016s to be even better from bottle than they were during the spring futures campaign. The best 2016s are powerful, richly layered, vibrant and stunningly beautiful, not to mention incredibly delicious and alluring. For so many wines and estates, 2016 is an epic vintage. We are offering from among the best wines and best values we encountered en primeur, with a focus on wines from Saint‑Julien, and other of our favorites from Saint-Émilion, Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe and other communes in the Médoc.
