The 2021 Samuel's Collection Bush Vine Grenache leads with sour cherry (the good kind), raspberry seed and a hint of black olive tapenade on the nose. In the mouth, the wine is fine/tight/lithe, with a very ripe-feeling finish. It is cushioned and plump and leaning into mulberry jam through the finish. The wine has nailed the aromatics and errs on the side of uncomplicated in the mouth. A nice splay of tannin supports the fruit in the mouth. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Drink 2023‑2029. Take Ancestor Vines (planted in 1894), a great vintage, experienced winemaking, add 30 months of aging in American and French oak, and the result is the stunning 2018 Command Single Vineyard Shiraz. Boasting fabulous density and concentration, this full‑bodied effort is still almost embryonic in its development, with tarry, mocha, yet lifted notes accenting intense blackberry fruit; a rich, supple yet structured mouthfeel, and a long, mouthwatering finish.
