2015 Yalumba Viognier The Virgilius

(raised in neutral French oak barrels of varying size) Green-tinted straw. Penetrating aromas of fresh citrus and orchard fruits, violet and smoky minerals are complemented by hints of fennel and candied ginger. Juicy and impressively concentrated but surprisingly lively on the palate, offering pear nectar, Meyer lemon and honey flavors that show excellent clarity and spicy drive. The mineral and floral notes repeat emphatically on the incisive finish, which hangs on with outstanding focus and tenacity. Drink 2019-2023. Rated 93.   - Josh Raynolds, October, 2017

2014 Yalumba Grenache Old Bush Vine Barossa Valley

(aged in used French oak barrels for eight months): Vivid red. High-pitched aromas of fresh red berries, candied rose, blood orange and white pepper; smells a lot like an elegant Pinot Noir to me. Clean, racy and vibrant on the palate, with the redcurrant and bitter cherry flavors conveying a weightless quality. Spicy, brisk and gently tannic on the clinging finish. This distinctly graceful wine is extremely easy to drink now but it should age nicely on its balance. These vines were reportedly planted between 1898 and 1973. Drink 2017-2022. Rated 90. - Josh Raynolds,, March, 2016
