As the Austin summer rapidly approaches full combustion, we thought it appropriate to explore wines from Italy's Mount Etna, Europe's highest active volcano. Located on the isola di Sicilia, Etna's ancient lava flows, soaring elevations, and indigenous grapes combine to produce some of Italy's most compelling wines. This Saturday we'll pour three selections from Tenuta delle Terre Nere, one of Mount Etna's benchmark producers, exploring the vibrant minerality of Carricante, complemented by Catarratto, in Etna Bianco and the singular beauty of Nerello Mascalese, with a touch of Nerello Cappuccio, in Etna Rosso, all born from the slopes of Sicily's living volcano.
