Produce of 100% organically‑farmed Sauvignon Blanc fruit from estate vineyards in Valle de Guadalupe, planted in 2008 to clay and granite soils at elevations of around 950 feet about 9 miles from the Pacific Ocean. (The estate has practiced organic viticulture since 2012. The labels are commissioned pieces by México City‑based LGBTQ+ artist, Jorge Tellaeche.) Light platinum/yellow in color with open‑knit aromas suggesting orchard fruits, the Sauvignon Blanc vine leaf itself, and mint (Lomita themselves note, among other things guayaba, flor de azajar y flor de limon; we further noted an exotic, leesy, British cheddar or even tres leches‑like quality with air); supple on entry, but demonstrating nice Sauvignon nerve and spine with flavors that reminisce that initial aromatic slate, along with further suggestion of a sweet herbal quality somewhere between chervil and cilantro, green apple and salted melon; Diana Kennedy, God rest her sweet and feisty soul, always championed Sauvignon Blanc with the interior Mexican cuisine of Austin's iconic Fonda San Miguel and now we've finally landed on a wine from México that fits the bill; all in all just an entirely refreshing and complex Sauvignon Blanc in league with a fine Sancerre or Pouilly‑Fumé or a Napa or Sonoma version, perhaps even moreso a Bordelais example.
